Admittedly, for me, the wine selection is the most important part of my evening [sometimes lunchtime] meal. With my penchant for BYOB, I’ve usually picked the wine well in advance of my entrée. Fortunately, I am convinced that my beloved Zinfandels and California Rhones go well with any cuisine.
The only problem with this approach is that one misses the magic that can occur when proper care and effort are put into matching the flavors of the food with the flavors of the wine.
A perfect example of this was the winemaker dinner held recently at the new Thelma and Luis Café, when Chef Luis Diaz matched his cuisine with the local wines from Reyes Winery.

Robert Reyes is finding that the busiest time of his life might be “retirement.” Reyes, founder and general manager of Reyes Winery in Agua Dulce, is a man of many interests including wine, art, family and scuba diving.
Add to that list giving back to the community.
Reyes Winery will host the inaugeral Sierra Pelona Valley Wine Festival on Saturday, Jan. 26 to benefit Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

Located at an elevation of 2800 ft, in the newly established appellation officially known as the Sierra Pelona Valley Viticultural Area, the winery started in April of 2004 when Reyes and his family planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Muscat on his 16-acre plot. Since then, his love of wine and wine-making turned from a small harvest for family and friends into a thriving enterprise that has to date won 18 significant medals and awards.

I was invited...to the inaugural Winemaker Dinner, hosted by Robert Reyes of Reyes Winery, at the newly opened Thelma & Luis restaurant in Santa Clarita. The menu was thoughtfully crafted and the wines selected to pair with the courses definitely worked.

Last Saturday I was invited to a special Winemaker Dinner at Thelma and Luis, which is a locally owned restaurant that just opened up a new location on Town Center Drive at the Westfield shopping center...Dinner consisted of four courses paired with wine from Reyes Winery.

The first annual Sierra Pelona Valley Wine Festival was held at Reyes Winery in Agua Dulce on Saturday, April 20th. The local wineries, food vendors, and boutiques were in festival tents that lined the Reyes Winery entrance, surrounded by vineyards with new growth. As usual for the area, it was a comfortable sunny and breezy day. ”

Devon and I went to the Valencia Town Center Shopping mall last Saturday to dine at Thelma’s and Luis new restaurant. The special winemaker's dinner was a hit and had a very good turnout.
