This past Saturday, April 21, Reyes Winery held the sixth annual Sierra Pelona Vintners Wine Festival which benefited the Zonta club of Santa Clarita Valley. We had over 700 people in attendance that came from All over Southern California.
This year’s event we had 34 local wineries from the Santa Clarita Valley to the antelope Valley area. We also had three breweries, a Cider maker and spirits. There was also plenty of nonalcoholic beverages. We had Honu Coffee from Newhall and assorted Pepsi products. Aquafina and Pepsi or one of our sponsors again this year. We also had many other local artists that included Chefs, bakers and chocolatiers and even someone who made homemade pickles and jellies. Plus many other artisans that did handmade crafts. One of the rules that we have for our event is it everything is handmade and it’s all local. We want our guests to meet the chef, winemaker, brewmaster or artist. We had been to so many other events throughout the years they did not give us this. So we created this event to showcase what our city has to offer. What I do know, from doing so many events is that so many people in Santa Clarita don’t realize what is out here.
This event was to raise money for different projects and scholarships that the Zonta club of the SCV has.
The Zonta Club of the SCV is a woman’s charity organization that empowers women internationally and here locally within Santa Clarita. We have many service projects such as Life Forward. It’s held once a month on Saturday at Savia. Every month there’s a different speaker to assist women in starting their lives over. Please check the Zonta website for upcoming dates.

“Zonta says no” is a campaign to prevent domestic violence within our community. To bring awareness we have 16 days of advocacy which starts November 25. 2016 we started the “red dress project”. Zonta demonstrates domestic violence in Santa Clarita by hanging seven red dresses at different locations throughout the 16 days. Each dress is to memorialize a different woman whose life was taken by domestic viole

nce in Santa Clarita.
There are other projects that we do and we also gave out many scholarships two girls and women within the community. May 9, we will be awarding scholarships for the Virginia Wrage memorial fund who was the local Santa Clarita Zontian. Plus we have international scholarships that we give out locally, Jane M Klausman, Young Women in public affairs community grants and Amelia Earhart fellowship. one of our members has received twice, Sharon Langenbeck which is the current vice president of our international board.

The Sierra Pelona Valley Wine Festival was sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of Valencia, California Bank and Trust, Advanced Audiology, Russ and Barbara Cochran, Sharon Langenbeck, Catherine Hartnek and Eric Sosa, Christine Sexton of Realty Executives, Jorja Harris of Farmers Insurance, and Oscar Arnold from SCV Couples Retreat. Plus our media sponsors; KHTS Radio and the Santa Clarita Gazette.
